Alumni Giving Back: Mark Tomkins

By Heather Blahnik (MA 96/US 97/AI 98) ) and Karen Raiti Thigpen (MI 96/US 97)

Look and you shall find many alumni give back to AIESEC via a role on the Board of  Advisors.  Current sighting:  Mark Tomkins.  Mark (NW ‘95) recently joined the BOA of AIESEC Northwestern, and AIESEC Life had the chance to catch up with him at the alumni reunion recently hosted in Chicago.

Interview with Mark Tomkins

Mark currently serves as Vice President of the German American Chamber of Commerce in the Midwest and is a busy father of two; he finds joy in reconnecting with AIESEC through its current students.

It was last year when Mark got involved with the LC, after they had experienced their share of what he calls “ups and downs”.  Recalling his own role as an organizing committee president of a national conference in 1995, Mark stepped in to offer his support in re-establishing the board and getting some procedures in place for the LC to host a successful Summer National Conference.   Mark also stepped up as an official sponsor of the conference and served as a trainer for the conference during the Youth to Business Forum, which is the newly branded external day.

His primary goal as a B.O.A. member is to make sure that this generation of AIESECers has great opportunities to “expand their horizons.”   He was excited to celebrate with the LC as they gained “full member” status during the conference and looks forward to coaching them on a successful recruitment drive in the fall.

AIESEC Life salutes Mark for his involvement with AIESEC Northwestern.  We know the students appreciate you!
