Calling all alumni! 21 LCs in danger of being closed down!
By Heather Blahnik (MA ’96, NC ’98, AI ’99) and Karen Raiti (MI ’96, NC ’97)
So many of us have had life-changing experiences, either going on traineeships or hosting interns from abroad in our LCs. The same is true for whole generations of young people. However, there are 21 LCs in the US that are in danger of being disbanded at the Winter National Conference in December because they have not met the minimum requirements of 2 realized incoming exchanges (Green forms/TNs/ICXs). Simply put: there are 21 universities who face the danger of not being an official AIESEC chapter next year and that means there are 21 universities that will not be able to offer life-changing experiences for their students, or continue the strong legacy so many alumni established. Could this be the product of a slow economy? Perhaps. But we at AIESEC Life believe the power of the alumni network can overcome a slow economy; and in doing so, we will make a definitive statement about our collective belief in the exchange program.
In order to save these LCs, we are calling on all alumni to look within their respective organizations, search within their networks, and consider who they know that can take an AIESEC trainee. This means talking to HR or to whomever it may be about the benefits of AIESEC, for who else knows better than we do how great an AIESEC trainee can be?
Listed below are the LCs that are in danger of disbandment. If you see your alma mater LC or an LC in your area, help them get to full status with a qualified sales lead and any support needed to convert that lead into a traineeship. You can learn about details of the exchange program today, as well as share information about potential leads, at http://aieseclife.org/overview-of-tn-referral-program/. All leads submitted through this form are eligible for a 20% alumni discount on the TN processing fee for a limited time. Team members of the AIESEC US sales force will be monitoring submissions frequently.

I am admittedly been out of the loop for several years…but, this is a joke, right? I mean a lot of what were very strong chapters when I was an undergrad are listed here. I mean, Austin, San Fran, Georgia, among others are two TN’s away from shutting down?
Derek – “Georgia” in this case is referring to the University of Georgia at Athens (UGA), which has always struggles on the Incoming Exchange (TN) side. The AIESEC LC at Georgia Tech (GT) is not in danger. There is also now an extension LC at Georgia State University (GSU)
Derek, sadly, this is certainly no joke. Anything you can do to help would be great. There are many traditionally strong LCs on the list, as well as many more.
