AAI COVID-19 – Official Statement

Apr 16, 2020

The world is currently united around finding a solution to a global pandemic that is compromising our health and well-being as a global society.   We understand that this current challenge is a difficult reality for many both personally and professionally, and that the outcome is unknown.

AIESEC was born at a time when the world needed rebuilding, and where youth leadership was activated to make change in the world.  We want to make a call within our network to activate the global leadership that AIESEC has been creating for over the last 70 years.

Firstly, we want to make a call for everyone to stay safe, and take the precautions necessary to keep healthy.  The events of the COVID-19 pandemic have required us to postpone our global conference (AAIC 2020) and AIESEC Alumni in Europe has also postponed their regional conference that was scheduled in May.  We congratulate the efforts of the OC’s in the regions that put incredible work into organizing the conferences and then again into postponing the events.  All this was done in a professional and timely manner.

We want to suggest that within the organization the National and Regional alumni associations take initiatives that promote and encourage online and virtual activities to facilitate the social isolation requested in their communities.  We have seen successful best practices of virtual meetings and events happening around the network.  This creativity around the way we gather is encouraged to be used for AlumNite’s, AGroups, Alumni Talks, Conferences and other global events and programs.

In the present moment, the world has been told to social distance and international travel has become a health risk.  The core of the student AIESEC exchange program is facing a challenging situation.   We will encourage initiatives in our integrated network of Regional and National alumni associations to provide support to AIESEC entities as needed.   Let’s keep that AIESEC spirit and energy alive.  We call upon all alumni to be the global and community leaders that the world needs at this current time.

This is a time when the world needs AIESEC and the global leadership with the vision of peace and fulfillment of humankind’s potential more than ever.  We are all in this together.

Stay healthy, stay strong.
