On August 30th, AIESEC alumni, family, and friends brought our blankets and wine to Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park to listen to Made in Chicago: World Class Jazz – Exquisitely for Ella: A Songbook Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald: Jeff Lindberg’s Chicago Jazz Orchestra. The acoustics were great, the company convivial, and the artists were spectacular. "Chicago vocalists Dee Alexander, Frieda Lee and Spider Saloff celebrate Ella’s 95th Birthday with original arrangements of music by Gershwin, Kern, Ellington, Arlen, Mercer, Berlin, Porter, and Jobim from the legendary Songbook recordings Ella made in the 1950s. The singers and the CJO, expanded to an orchestra including 17 strings, honor Ella Fitzgerald’s unique contribution to American culture.â€
From a 15 minute visit from Louis Brownstone (IU) to the adorable children of Kevin Cooper (UI), the company of every alumni was treasured. Several alumni had just returned from trips far and wide, and it was awesome to hear all of their stories and discuss favorite spots around the world. Trainees provided extra spice to the event, bringing their unique cultural heritages and interpretations to our mix.
Our next big event is our slightly-delayed Oktoberfest celebration on October 5th. We exceeded our reservations (go alumni!), so please mark your calendars for our next event, which will be on the First Thursday of November (the 1st) at Barrelhouse Flat, a fun speakeasy type bar in Lincoln Park. We look forward to seeing you there, and if you haven't renewed your AIESEC Life membership yet (or you're a first-timer), please go to http://aieseclife.org/alumni-giving/ and sign up now. Thanks!
