Following the AIESEC US Board meeting in New York on January 30, the NYC hub hosted a reception in their honor for more than 50 alumni. Featured speakers included Frank Foti and Jerry Allison (pictured above with NYC Hub Chair Cathy Shelton), who sit on the boards of both AIESEC US and AIESEC Life.

Cathy Shelton kicked off the evening by reviewing the mission of AIESEC Life and how the NY Hub is supporting it at the local level by organizing an active program of nearly two dozen events a year, including monthly happy hours, a speakers series, social events, and alumni involvement in AIESEC’s regional and national conferences.

Cathy was delighted to announce that NY Hub Steering Committee member Allen Kone (Yale 66) has accepted a new position as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary with the AIESEC Life national team. Allen also sits on the BOA of Yale.

Frank Foti (Miami 79 and NCP 81), member of the Founders Circle of AIESEC Life, introduced the members of the AIESEC US board in attendance (Jerry Allison, Russ Gerson, Mike Ross and Virginia P’an).

Frank went on to provide a quick review of the state of AIESEC US, and noted that the current crop of AIESECers is as good as he’s ever seen, and they’re making a lot of progress during tough economic conditions.  They need the support of alumni in strengthening the traineeship program, and Frank urged alumni who are in a position to influence the taking of a trainee at their company to come forward.

Jerry Allison (NIU 62), also a Founders Circle member, shared with the attendees that he has really enjoyed his decades of support for AIESEC as a BOA member, and that active involvement with AIESEC at your local level is very rewarding and rejuvenating. Jerry was inducted into the AIESEC Hall of Fame in 2003 for his tireless hands-on support of AIESEC.

Karlene Dormer, founder of AIESEC Baruch reconnects with active members, who share the current activities and results of the local committee.

Russ Gerson (Michigan 81and NCP 82), AIESEC US Chairman of the Board, catches up with Cathy Shelton with Irvin Barash (Columbia 64) in the background.

Board member Virginia P’an and Bryan Walker, co-chair of the NYC hub.

Mike Ross has served on the Board of AIESEC US for nearly 20 years from the 70s through the 90s, and re-joined the Board within the last few years.  His other AIESEC experience includes a traineeship to Denmark in 1967.

For the second year in a row, the reception was held in a private room at Pranna, which features a gourmet take on Southeast Asia street food. Thanks are due to the 15 alumni who hosted the buffet:
