Legends Among Us: Peter Stewart

Published on September 25, 2024

As Peter Stewart passes the torch after seven remarkable years as Chairman of AIESEC Life, it’s time to reflect on his extraordinary contributions and the lasting legacy he leaves behind.

Peter’s involvement with AIESEC began as a student at Georgia Tech, where he first embraced the organization’s mission of international leadership and exchange. His passion for AIESEC never waned, as he organized the International Congress in Atlanta in 1997, served on the AIESEC United States Board of Directors for 7 years, was a founding member of AIESEC Life, and then continued to give back as Chairman of the Board of AIESEC Life from 2018 to 2024.

Peter is not only a leader but a dedicated mentor to younger alumni and AIESEC student members. He has devoted countless hours to nurturing the next generation of leaders, offering guidance, support, and inspiration. His hands-on approach extended to the support of the Georgia Tech local committee, by personally recruiting a new Local Committee President (LCP)!  Peter continues his efforts with Georgia Tech and is continuously recruiting alumni in the area to assist in order to ensure growth and sustainability.

Throughout his tenure, Peter strengthened connections between AIESEC alumni and current students, fostering a deep sense of collaboration and mutual support. As Chairman, he believed in the power of the alumni and was committed to ensuring that alumni remained engaged with the organization, sharing their experiences and wisdom with each other and with the next generation of AIESECers.

One of Peter’s most impactful contributions to AIESEC Life was his role with other passionate board members in the creation of the Lili Hein Endowment. Recognizing the importance of financial sustainability for AIESEC Life’s long-term success, Peter was instrumental in this visionary fundraising effort. The endowment will help to secure the necessary funding to sustain AIESEC Life and its programs for years to come, leaving a lasting financial legacy that will benefit future generations of AIESEC alumni and students.

When asked about his most memorable moments as Chairman, Peter says this, "One of the most poignant moments of my tenure as Chairman came at the 75th Anniversary celebration in Atlanta. Surrounded by loved ones and the AIESEC community, we witnessed the thermometer climb steadily as we raised funds for the Lili Hein Endowment. Lili was a dear friend, and it was an immense honor to raise funds in her name. That night, the spirit of AIESEC shone brighter than ever, and I felt a deep sense of fulfillment and gratitude."

Peter Stewart’s legacy as Chairman is one of service, vision, and unwavering commitment. His leadership has created a foundation for a bright future for AIESEC Life, where alumni and students alike can continue to thrive in a global community united by a shared mission.

"As we say goodbye to Peter as Chairman, I want to express my deepest gratitude for his dedication and guidance. His leadership has been instrumental in shaping AIESEC Life into the thriving organization it is today.  I am always impressed by his passion and commitment.  His legacy will continue to inspire future generations of AIESECers."
