The AIESEC Life Treasurer is an officer of AIESEC Life, Inc.
From the AIESEC Life, Inc. bylaws outline the formal responsibilities of this role:
The Treasurer shall supervise the financial activities of the Corporation. Specifically, the Treasurer shall see that (a) full and accurate accounts of receipts and disbursements are kept, (b) a system is in place such that all monies and other valuable effects are deposited in the name and to the credit of the Corporation in such depositories as shall be designated by the Board, (c) the Directors at the regular meetings of the Board or whenever they may require it, receive an account of the financial condition of the Corporation, and (d) when required by law, an annual audit of the Corporation’s books and records is performed by an auditor selected by the Board. The Treasurer shall also perform such other duties as may be prescribed by the Board. In performing these functions, the Treasurer may rely on employees or consultants of the Corporation or any affiliated corporation who possess special financial training and skills and whose responsibilities include management of the Corporation’s financial affairs.
From a practical standpoint, this volunteer position involves the following:
- Ensuring that we keep proper books and maintain proper financial controls
- Preparing financial documentation for quarterly Board of Director calls
- Attending quarterly Board of Director calls
- Providing analytic support for the Audit Committee
- Oversee bookkeeping function
- Prepare timely tax and other financial filings
- Lead the finance committee
- Implement financial policies and controls in managing restricted funds, endowments and operating cash with their intended purpose
- Prepare the annual budgets & quarterly forecast
- Participate in the annual founders retreat and active participation in key board initiatives
- Review and approve key agreements
- Be active in sustainability and fundraising initiatives
- Be a strategic thinker with the ability to contribute to the organization future developments
